We are at the third day of the men's competition in the MIBC and today, the women are set to take the stage. This is the first time the MIBC has a women's category and the four women's teams will duke it out in a single round-robin format to determine the winner.
Our girls came back from the recent FIBA Asia Basketball Championship for Women in Chennai with a top placing in the level II division, beating much taller teams like Lebanon, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, but were unable to get past India in the level I qualifier. Head Coach, Tan See Wah, hopes to use this tournament as a platform for his younger players to gain some valuable international experience in preparation for the future. The two youngsters, Yap Ching Yee and Saw Wei Yin, will definitely be in the spotlight. Ching Yee is currently the tallest player in the national team training squad, standing tall at 1.92m.
Of course, the team still retains its experienced core of Kew Suik May, Goh Beng Fong, Pee Yann Yann and Yong Shin Min, all of whom have played and won in the SEA games. Coach Tan feels that this tournament will indeed test the mettle of our girls and hopes they will rise to the occasion.
The Malaysia Women's team will play against the Guangzhou Youth team from China in their opening game this evening. Although the Guangzhou team is the youngest of all participating teams with an average age of only 15.3 years, they are much taller than our girls. Qiu Si Yue is a member of China's National Youth team, and Yang Li Wei, Cui Hong Yang, Yu Dong and Yang Xi are also in the China National Youth training squad.
The other match will be between the Home United Basketball Club from Singapore and the Hai Shan High School team from Chinese Taipei. Both teams appear to be evenly matched, with Hai Shan being the feeder team for the Chinese Telecommunications team, who competes in the WSBL, the professional women's league in Chinese Taipei.
The Hai Shan High School team had won the HBL for three consecutive years from 2006 to 2008. Key players include Hsu Chien-Hui, Pan Taz-Yin, Liu His-Yeh, Liu Jung-Hsing and Huang Hsian-Ting. The Home United Basketball Club, who have won the WNBL title in Singapore two years in a row, are also a force to be reckoned with. Yao Xiuxiu, Zhang Shu, Zhao Jing and Tan Yee Nee were members of the 2003 SEA games team which won the silver medal in Vietnam. Cheryl Poon, Maybelline Ang and Li Xue Ling are also national team players. Hone United also have two Japanese players, Kono Megumi and Ariizumi Yukiko.
女子組今上演 馬中壓軸出場
在男子組比賽鏖戰正酣之際，大馬國際籃球邀請賽女子組明日也 燃起硝煙，東道主大馬女籃將迎戰“娃娃兵團”中國廣州青年隊，誓要打響首炮。
女子組是本屆賽會增設的其中一個項目，除了大馬和廣州之外，另外兩支受邀參賽的隊伍，分別是中華台北海山高中及新加坡內政群英，4隊一連3天展開激戰爭奪后冠。
大馬不久前剛在亞錦賽奪得第Ⅱ級冠軍，可惜在升級附加賽不敵身高占優的東道主印度，主教練陳時和希望借助本屆賽會為將來做準備，國內第一高妹、18歲小將葉晶兒和17歲控衛蘇葦穎，成為重點考察的球員。
當然，大馬爭取佳績的希望，還是會寄託在邱淑媚、彭燕燕、吳明鳳、和楊欣敏等東運戰將的身上，陳教練表示，這次的邀請賽對大馬來說將是一次很好的考驗。
3歸化球員助陣
無論如何，廣州青年隊絕對不是省油之燈，雖然她們是賽會平均年齡最小（15.3歲）的隊伍，但平均身高卻是最高（181.8公分），邱思玥已經是中國國青隊的成員，楊力維、崔洪楊、于東和楊晰則是國少隊成員。
明日另一場比賽，將在台灣高中聯賽（HBL）傳統勁旅海山高中及新加坡內政群英之間展開，預料將是一場勢均力敵的比賽。 海山高中曾在2006至2008年，成為HBL史上唯一完成3連霸的球隊，盡管今年沖擊4連冠失敗，但整體實力依然不容忽視，徐千惠、潘姿吟、劉希曄、劉容杏和黃湘婷將是值得關注的球員。
新加坡內政群英擁有姚修修、張姝和趙婧3名中國歸化球員，她們曾在2003年幫助新加坡奪得東運會銀牌，加上方淑雯和李袕玲等新加坡國手，她們數月前剛以全胜戰績奪得吉隆坡國際邀請賽冠軍。

The Malaysia Men's team managed a hard-won 79-74 victory over the Hong Kong China team during their second game of the MIBC.
Both teams started off strong, with Malaysian center, Chee Li Wei, scoring 11 points in the first quarter off two consecutive 3-point plays. Loh Shee Fai also lit it up from beyond the arc with two consecutive 3 pointers. Fong Shing Yee, from the Hong Kong team, had an equally hot hand, scoring 10 points in the first quarter, granting the hosts a mere two-point lead into the second quarter.
With the Hong Kong team falling into a scoring rut during the second quarter, the hosts managed to push their lead to 10 before Li Kim Wong completed a 3-point play to break the rut. Lau Chi Kin immediately followed up with two 3-pointers to even the score and 36 each. The score was 39-40 in favour of the Malaysians at half-time.
The Malaysians opened the second half with a 14-2 run, with 3-pointers from both Guganeswaran and Loh Shee Fai. Our boys managed to disrupt the Hong Kong offense by switching up defenses and led by 12 at the end of the third quarter.
Cheng Kam Hing and Lau Chi Kin led the Hong Kong China team's rally in the last quarter and pulled to within four points with 14 seconds remaining. Cheng Kam Hing and Lau Chi Kin With time running out, the Hong Kong team had no choice but to foul. Wee Chuan Chin hit 1 of 2 free throws to secure the win.
The Malaysia team had 4 players scoring in double figures. Chee Li Wei led all scorers with 18 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Loh Shee Fai had 16 points off 4-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Chai Chze Hian scored 9 points off the bench in the last quarter and finished with 13 points.
The Hong Kong China team also had 4 players scoring in double figures. Fong Shing Yee was 8-for-13 from the field, scoring 17 points. Lau Chi Kin and Lo Yi Ting both scored 13 apiece.

這次國際邀請賽，大馬陣容多了4張新面孔，分別是200公分的關永境（19歲）、198公分的郭添源（18歲）、186公分的顏坊峰（19歲）以及178公分的何耀隆（21歲），若非小將李健宗訓練時受傷退出，大馬甚至有5名新人！
何耀隆最搶眼
當然，球迷們不可能對4名年輕人期望過高，畢竟發哥這次帶他們出征，主要還是想讓他們吸取經驗，不是要他們當“救世主”。因此從這個角度出發，4位小將的表現可以打上及格的分數。
先看看他們在首仗（85比60擊敗中國珠海免稅集團）交出的數據，關永境先發打了14分半鐘，獲得4分4籃板1助攻；郭添源先發上陣約12分鐘，交出3分3籃板3助攻；顏坊峰替補出場7分22秒，拿下6分1籃板1助攻。
何耀隆則是4名小將當中表現最搶眼的一位，他后備入替打了15分19秒，繳出8分5籃板1助攻，其中有一次在几名高佬的包圍下搶得進攻籃板，另一次硬闖禁區強攻得手完成“3分打”，皆贏得了球迷熱烈的掌聲。
渴望為國效力
發哥在評價4名新人在首戰的表現時說：“不錯啊，他們都有很好的發揮。耀隆打球的視野很開闊，有領導才能，而且拚勁十足。坊峰一開始有點緊張，但適應比賽后也投進了几球。”
“永境和添源一直以來對自己缺乏信心，所以這次我讓他們首發出場拿經驗，並叮囑他們無需想太多，只要做好自己的本份就行了，而他們也達到了我的要求。”
“事實上，他們心中都有那團火要為國家隊效力，只是以前沒有人給他們机會，所以現在就是他們的机會。”
可以肯定的是，發哥已經向其他年輕球員發出了一個信息：“只要你有心又肯下苦功，國家隊的大門永遠為你們敞開！”
